How many time have we been in a phone call when our carrier drops the call? Sure, all of us. To many of us, there isn't many thing much worse than having a less than reliable cell phone provider. What if there was some technology that would eliminate cell phone dead spots? What if technology made the cell phone carrier war a much more even battle?
Now, that technology may very well be in the works. Bell-Labs has introduced a solar-powered node that attaches to current cell phone towers that not only consumes less power, but also gives t he network a more reliable connection. The nodes are so small, they are not only tethered to cell phone towers. They can also be placed in strategic locations throughout any given metropolitan area thus giving the network a more reliable platform.
Brilliant! However it does pose the question, what exactly took so long for this kind of technology to come about?
