It is no secret that Microsoft has dumped millions of dollars into the promotion of their Microsoft Surface tablets. This includes a 400 million dollar deal with the NFL to make the Surface the official tablet of the league. This gives teams a digital look at plays and formations that once were viewed by a black and white printout.

So what's the big deal? Well the NFL announcers can't seem to remember the importance of a paid sponsorship. On more than one occasion announcers have referred to the Surface as an iPad. While this may seem trivial to some it is likely a huge issue with Microsoft who shelled out a staggering amount of money to be placed on the sideline of every NFL game. In fact, last season one announcer referred to the Surface as a quote "iPad-like device" while Chicago Bear's quarterback Jay Cutler referred to the device as an "iPad Knock-off". Such disrespect for a company that is paying top-dollar for product placement. So what now? Will Microsoft pull out of the deal with the NFL that is said to last into the 2017 season? Not likely. However it is likely that the commissioner will be sending out letters to players, staff, personnel, and even announcers that the league is only dealing with the Microsoft Surface and not the iPad.

  1. One more reason the NFL should look into the brain damage issue really closely.
