So how would someone see inside the fridge without opening it? Well, see through the doors of course! Introducing Haier's new smart window refrigerator. A fridge with motion sensor-powered lights that illuminate when it detects someone in front of it. When the light powers on, the user is allowed to see inside the unit through a translucent door- thus eliminating the need to open it unless you are sure you want something inside it.
Brilliant? Or just lazy?
That remains to be seen. It also remains to be seen if consumers will actually want to pay extra for another WI-FI-enabled device that may come off as unnecessary for some. Personally, I feel that this is the epitome of cool. However I can see why some people would ask themselves if a smart refrigerator is something they really need.
While Haier has been teasing the smart window refrigerator for over 2 years now, it is finally going to hit stores early 2016 in Europe and also Asia. It is still unclear how much it will cost and if and or when it will make it to the United States. It will also come with a smartphone app that the users can control from a tablet or phone.
With a smart fridge that allows anyone to see inside, might be a good idea to keep it clean in case you have any surprise visitors.
